As many of our community members will know, our fo As many of our community members will know, our former Executive Director Heather Petch has recently moved on from her role at Refugee Futures.

Heather has shared some reflections on her time at Refugee Futures: "After over three years, I'm leaving the post I've been privileged to hold leading the brilliant team at Refugee Futures in welcoming and supporting refugees and people seeking asylum to flourish in Stockton. I’ve been inspired by all the people I've worked with and especially people who've made difficult decisions and journeys to find safety here in Stockton.”

Heather explains that she is leaving because of family needs, and went on to say, "I've learned so much from refugees and people seeking asylum who actively make a contribution and life here on Teesside, in spite of all the challenges and negative policy making at the current time.”
Heather has passed the baton to Allison Noel, who is now our full-time CEO and brings a wealth of strategic and operational experience.

Allison has thanked staff, volunteers and advisory group members for her warm welcome so far and says, "I'm looking forward to getting to know and working with colleagues, partners and the refugee, asylum seeking and longer-term resident communities to support an inclusive and thriving Stockton".

A huge thank you to @sbcemploymentandtraining for A huge thank you to @sbcemploymentandtraining for hosting our team strategy meeting yesterday.

It was a productive session and we particularly appreciated the big white boards for ideas-sharing throughout the day.
Today, we are excited to launch online two milesto Today, we are excited to launch online two milestones for Refugee Futures:

🏠 ‘Making Stockton a Home: Refugee Experiences of Settling in Stockton-on-Tees', a refugee-led research report in collaboration with @durhamuniversity University (link in bio)

🗺️ Our new 2026-2029 Strategy and Roadmap, shaped by research findings and developed in collaboration with people with lived experience (link in bio)

To celebrate and share this work, last week we held a launch event at the @arc_stockton, where our team, community members and partners shared reflections on how we got here, and our hopes of where this work will take us: towards making Stockton a home where everyone can flourish.

It was an evening of different voices and perspectives: Advisory Group member Shirley and Gee opened our event with the beautiful Ndbele song ‘Phendula’; our Chair Jon Carling welcomed us; Professor Sarah Hainsworth, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research at Durham University, reflected on the value of research partnership, and Professor Lauren Martin and our Welcome and Research Lead, Kawa Wali, shared the research findings.

Our trustee Ben Chisanga MBE reflected on his personal story and the importance of lived-experience led work and research; our staff team presented our new Strategy; Cllr Norma Stephenson shared perspectives from Stockton Borough Council; and Khosi and Haja, Advisory Group members, reflected on the development of the group and invited everyone to join us on this journey.

Thank you to everyone who came and made the event a success, and please get in touch if you would like to discuss the research report or our strategy!
